Environmental Management System
Preliminary environmental analysis for a fertilizer company
The industrial site encountered a challenge of runoff pollution caused by rainwater. In fact, their fertilizer production processes generate dust and soiling points where concentrations in chemicals (N, P, K) were too high regarding the ranges allowed by their environmental permit.
What we did
We started by analyzing the scientific agreements & regulations applied to fertilizers factories and more precisely the ISO 14 001 & EMAS guidelines for the implementation of an EMS. Then, it was crucial to understand the scope of action required to eradicate their runoff pollution problem. We thus conducted audits and laboratory analysis to highlight the most critical zones polluted by their chemicals. Meanwhile, we gathered with the supervision of the Head of Quality Security Environment (QSE) precious information about the best practices and improvement points of the different operators on the field.
As a result, we created a pollution report and designed an action plan based on the urgency of action.
The purpose of action
The goal was to recommend a concrete action plan, tools and propositions to conduct a complete Environmental Analysis in order to implement an Environmental Management System. Such an EMS would enable the company to tackle and monitor their environmental issues on the long run and keep identifying sources of pollution with the monitoring of Key Performance Indicators.
